Share Your Story
Psalmist David wrote, “One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts.” (Psalm 145:4). He reminds all those who call on God, fear God and love God, not to be silent, but to tell one another the stories of God’s work in and through their lives - even bridging generation gaps. The power and impact of an authentic simple story shared must not be underestimated.
Psalm 145 bursts with praise, not just in private worship but in the public testimony of the faithful: “They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might” (v11). This is not a subdued whisper, but a bold, Spirit-empowered declaration of God’s kingdom and might. From generation to generation, from pew to pavement, we are called to tell of God’s glory revealed within our story.
Every believer in Christ carries a living testimony – a much needed light shining in the darkness - God’s might manifest in the mundane and minutia of daily living. God’s glory, greatness and goodness is displayed in our grace-marked days. We do not need a microphone to make ourselves heard, nor a pulpit behind which we have an authority, nor a platform upon which to be seen. Our ordinary story is our ‘sermon’ written by the Spirit in daily actions - read, heard and seen by those around us.
Do not underestimate the power of what God has done in your life. Perhaps it was peace in a storm, ‘bread’ when you were hungry, strength when you came to the end of yourself.
Let us declare God’s story, not just in the sanctuary, but also in the street. God's works are too wonderful to keep hidden. The Holy Spirit is both Comforter and Prompter - He brings to remembrance what the Lord has done in us, through us and for us. He gives courage to speak and clarity to share. Your story may be exactly what someone else needs to hear - a moment of hope, a reminder that God is still near. Your ordinary might be the extraordinary answer to someone’s silent prayer.
Let the world know: God is not done. He is working in the lives of ordinary people with extraordinary love. Your life is evidence – God’s faithful fingerprints can be detected when we look closely enough.
So speak over the garden fence, write that little letter of thanks, share that simple story with your friend. Encourage, bless, comfort as the Lord leads in the simplicity of daily living. Let your daytimes be filled with quiet proclamations of His power, and your evenings with reflections of His mercy. And when others ask, “How do you keep going?” tell them the truth: “Because the Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy” (v8).
In a world hungry for authenticity, meaning and hope, your Spirit-filled simple testimony could be the spark that leads someone to Christ. Don’t bury it. Declare it.
